Mountain Apple (Syzygium malaccense) Seed
This listing is for ONE (1) Mountain Apple SEED (Syzygium malaccense). Also known as Malay Apple.
(When in season a listing variation for a 3 seed pack is offered)
Grow your own Maui Mountain Apple tree. This tropical plant is also known as Ohi'a 'ai, and is considered a Hawaiian 'Canoe Plant'. Please google more about this fascinating term. There are 27 other useful 'Hawaiian Canoe Plants' that helped early voyaging Polynesians sustain life in their new environment. These 27 plants were their supermarket, hardware store and pharmacy.
I carefully collect and pack each seed in damp paper toweling in a plastic baggie. You may germinate your seed in the baggie that it arrives in or go ahead and plant it in container of good potting soil and keep evenly watered.
These small fruit trees produce beautiful hot pink colored flower blossoms that remind me of paint brushes (shown)
Your Mountain Apple seed is about the size of a marble and will appear to 'crack' open or split in two as it grows. This is normal. It will grow leaves from one end and roots from the opposite end. You can germinate your seed in the baggie that it arrives in and then plant it or go ahead and plant it as soon as you receive it. Maybe get two seeds and try it both ways-it is always fascinating to watch the seeds growth in a plastic baggie for a week or two. Watch for any mold, carefully wash off. Plant your seed once it has a bit of green leaf showing.
