Blackberry Jam Plant (Randia formosa) Seeds
Have the fun of adding this easy to grow, exquisite tasting fruit to your Plant Collection. Grow extra to share with gardening Friends. This listing is for our freshly collected Blackberry Jam Fruit Plant (Randia formosa) SEEDS, grown in our Maui garden. PLEASE CHOOSE YOUR SIZE SEED PACKET AT CHECKOUT, 5, 10 OR 25 SEEDS. (We also offer live Randia formosa plants, please see that separate listing).
Your SEEDS will arrive wet packed in damp paper toweling inside sealed + labeled plastic baggies. You can germinate your seeds indoors inside their baggies or go ahead and plant in a container. Once planted, you must keep these tropical plants evenly watered + warm at all times (75-85 degrees). A 'test' seed or two left in the baggie that it arrives in is a good way to observe seed germination.
PLEASE NOTE THAT WRITTEN GROWING INSTRUCTIONS ARE NOT OFFERED WITH OR AFTER YOU RECEIVE YOUR SEEDS SAFELY. ONCE THESE FRESHLY COLLECTED SEEDS ARE IN YOUR HANDS, WE ARE NO LONGER RESPONSIBLE FOR THEM. IT IS YOUR PERSONAL GARDENING PROJECT AT THIS POINT.
PLEASE READ UP ON THE SOIL REQUIREMENTS OF THIS ACID LOVING PLANT. WE OFFER A FEW GROWING TIPS THAT HAVE WORKED FOR US HERE IN MAUI'S YEAR ROUND OUTDOOR GROWING CLIMATE BUT YOU WILL NEED TO RESEARCH WHAT THIS PLANT LIKES/NEEDS TO THRIVE WHERE YOU LIVE.
The biggest thing that we see Novice gardeners do is 1.Allow the seeds/plant to get too cold or too hot. 2.Let the seeds/plant dry out. These are the two main factors that will kill a seed or developing plant quite effectively. We guarantee that these are as fresh as humanly possible wet packed Maui seeds. We do not guarantee your ability or skill to grow them.
These plants stay neat and compact and seem very happy growing in containers or the garden. We have a small garden area (shown) with a grouping of these plants happily growing in one bed. I have my acid loving plants growing with a 50/50 mix of perlite and peat moss. I keep them watered evenly and give them cold coffee grounds and left over cold coffee weekly.
I like to get my plants growing with a nice root system before planting them outdoors in garden soil.
The flowers of the Blackberry Jam Plant/Randia formosa form into small fruits. The petite snowy white flowers remind me of tiny Gardenia blossoms. The flowers will produce small green fruits. Once the fruit matures and turns yellow you can open it up and find the Blackberry 'jam' inside.
