You can germinate your seeds indoors inside a sealed baggie with a damp paper towel. Once your seeds have successfully germinated indoors you can go ahead and plant in a container. PLEASE READ BELOW THE 'TIPS'THAT WE OFFER FOR THIS PLANT. Once planted, you must keep these tropical plants evenly watered + warm at all times (75-85 degrees).
PLEASE NOTE THAT WRITTEN GROWING INSTRUCTIONS ARE NOT OFFERED WITH OR AFTER YOU RECEIVE YOUR SEEDS SAFELY. ONCE THESE FRESHLY COLLECTED SEEDS ARE IN YOUR HANDS, WE ARE NO LONGER RESPONSIBLE FOR THEM. IT IS YOUR PERSONAL GARDENING PROJECT AT THIS POINT.
PLEASE READ UP ON THE SOIL REQUIREMENTS OF THIS ACID LOVING PLANT. WE OFFER A FEW GROWING TIPS THAT HAVE WORKED FOR US HERE IN MAUI'S YEAR ROUND OUTDOOR GROWING CLIMATE BUT YOU WILL NEED TO RESEARCH WHAT THIS PLANT LIKES/NEEDS TO THRIVE WHERE YOU LIVE.
The biggest thing that we see Novice gardeners do is 1.Allow the seeds/plant to get too cold or too hot. 2.Let the seeds/plant dry out. These are the two main factors that will kill a seed or developing plant quite effectively. We guarantee that these are as fresh as humanly possible wet packed Maui seeds. We do not guarantee your ability or skill to grow them.
These plants stay neat and compact and seem very happy growing in containers or the garden. We have a small garden area (shown) with a grouping of these plants happily growing in one bed in full sun. Randia formosa are acidic soil loving plants. We start all of our seedlings with a 50/50 mix of perlite and peat moss. We like to fertilize our older plants with cold coffee grounds and left over cold coffee weekly.
The flowers of the Blackberry Jam Plant/Randia formosa form into small fruits. The petite snowy white flowers remind me of tiny Gardenia blossoms. The flowers will produce small green fruits. Once the fruit matures and turns yellow you can open it up and find the Blackberry 'jam' inside.
