• Black Sapote (Diospyros digyna) Seeds

This listing is for 3 (THREE) Chocolate/Black Sapote (Diospyros digyna) SEEDS grown in our Haiku, Maui, garden.  Your seeds are collected from our fresh fruit and carefully wet packed in damp paper toweling in a sealed plastic baggie.  You can germinate your seeds in the baggie that they arrive in or go ahead and plant in a container of good potting soil.  Please plan on keeping this tropical fruit tree seed/seedling warm and watered at all times.  75-85 degrees is the ideal temperature.  It is always best to research how to grow any plant that you are trying to in your particular area.  We grow everything outdoors here in Maui's year round growing climate and will not be able to advise you how to grow indoors or where you live.
I do like to get all of my plants/seeds growing in containers with a good root system before placing them in larger pots or directly in the garden.
All seed orders ship within one business day/24 hours of your order.
Commonly known as 'Chocolate pudding tree', this tree is related to a Persimmon. Be the first of your Gardening Friends to grow this unique, somewhat rare fruit tree. You may want to grow two Black Sapote trees to make sure that your tree sets fruit.
I have included photos of the trees that I have grown from seeds, they make a very distinct black colored trunk, not sure if it is apparent in photos.
Chocolate Sapote fruit has the most unique flavor. It tastes similar to chocolate mousse or to me, more like a chocolate lilikoi. If you have never tried one, you must. The fruit is green on the outside at first and ripens very quickly, it is only ready to eat once the skin turns black and the fruit pulp is BLACK inside. (NEVER eat the green fruit, only the deep rich ripe black chocolate 'pudding' pulp).
